Money Doesn't buy one Happiness and Love
The story that was posted about the man who lived without money and materialistic possessions really got me thinking about all of the things in our lives that are simply objects. We have it brainwashed in our minds that the more things one owns, the more happy and successful they are in life. Main stream society creates an image in our heads about what it means to live a fulfilled american dream and to many people a more simple life is the answer for true happiness in life. Through the lens that I view our society, it is unfortunate to see traditional values and morals disappear from many families because of the constant drive for more things and a constant pressure filled lifestyle that brings temporary happiness. People need to recognize the true values and important things that we value. Similarly to what we read, play with your children, explore the flora and fauna, work can wait until the true answers to our existence are answered. People just need to keep searching for meanings in life and take the initiative for radical thinking.

i totally agree, a society such as America has really made materialism a huge value. but is that really something that makes you a better person by owning more things?
ReplyDeleteI also agree that American's materialistic view has gotten way out of hand. It's sad that we have lost our values like family and ourselves through this consumerism.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing that someone could live with out money in our materialistic society. I donot think that I could survive with out my possesions.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Americans have become overly materialistic. I think that people should try to live with less materialistic things and take a step back and realize what true values are important, like family.
ReplyDeleteI think that although that guy seems a little crazy, his viewpoint does make sense because he is living like our ancestors way back lived, with only bare essentials.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Americans drive for money have definitely gotten in the way of the more important things. We have to do our best to avoid this because it will not be as fulfilling usually.
ReplyDeleteI think its cool that it is possible to live without money. That guy might seem nuts, but he looks pretty happy while eating road kill for dinner with his family.
ReplyDeleteI think that living with no money would be so hard. Everything we do involves money, and nothing is free
ReplyDeleteSteve - mad comments here, eh? Anyway, mine is that work CAN be a part of the meaning of life if we change how we think about work - it has to be something that we do that is meaningful and rewarding. However, most of us think that work is something we have to do, and is just for the money.
